HISTORY – (PROVENANCE)
1964 — Delivered directly to RAAF Transport Flight Vietnam from DHC Toronto.
1965 — Ran off the runway at Hai Yen damaging the right wing which was replaced with a wing from a US Army Caribou complete with US insignia.
1966 — Left wing damaged in a landing accident at Ba To. Wing was replaced with a wing from a US Army Caribou complete with US Army markings. Ferry pilot was awarded the DFC.
1972 — A4-173 arrived in Australia for the first time on two wings acquired from the US Army.
1974 — Based in Darwin on relief work after Cyclone Tracy.
1979 — Flown by HRH Prince Charles Cairns-Lizard Island.
2001 — Sold to QAM by the Australian War Memorial. Aircraft had been allocated to the AWM but was inexplicably parted out by the RAAF.
